Get up close to one of Valais’ most iconic breeds: the Hérens cow.
During the winter months, step inside a traditional cattle shed in the village and discover what daily life is like for these remarkable animals and the farmers who care for them. Learn more about the Hérens breed and find out how the cows are fed, groomed and milked throughout the winter.
You’ll also have the chance to get involved and try milking a cow by hand using traditional methods. It’s a hands-on way to discover a skill that has been part of local farming life for generations.
The visit continues in the cheese cellar, where you’ll learn more about another important part of the region’s farming traditions and discover how milk is turned into cheese.
To round off the experience, sit down together for a tasting of cheese and other regional products from the farm – a delicious end to an authentic introduction to mountain farming life in Nendaz.
